Google is now supposed to use around 200 different variables to rank websites, and these days social media plays a bigger part than it ever has done before. Now a lot of people use paid adverting and just throw money at it to get people to their web site, however that is not the way to do it. You have to keep an eye on all the statistics, as you need to be making more money from the adverting campaign than you are spending. There are a lot of ways of doing it these days, such as using Google Analytics. Always do multiple tests across various adverting platforms, and use split testing on each ad, as some adverts will work much better than others. Look at what other marketers are doing in your niche, and copy what they are doing, not word for word of course.

Google Adwords
The No.1 choice for internet marketers, and it has a turnover of $Billions each year. Although getting adverting here right can mean a lot of traffic, getting it wrong can be very costly. When using Adwords, you need to concentrate on longtail keywords as they are the least expensive. Using a generic keyword such as lose weight will cost you a lot of money, and get very little converting traffic. If you target the keywords correctly, then you can get quality converting traffic.
In the last few years Facebook has become one of the biggest sites for adverting on. They have over 1 billion users, although how many of those accounts are classed as active we do not know, many will have been closed down that were spamming and backlinking. However, the user base is still massive, and advertising is a lot cheaper than Adwords, although it does convert less. This is because that on Google, people may be actively searching to buy something, but on Facebook they are not. It is still worth testing on this platform though.
Bing Ads
This is similar to Adwords, and now allows you to get your ads on Yahoo and Bing. Prices are cheaper than Adwords, and the traffic you get can be just as good. Since these two giants joined forces, you have an easy and quick way of getting your ads in front of a lot of people.
